Werdum vs Velasquez

Fabrico Werdum earned his number one contender spot on Saturday, at UFC on Fox 11. Most thought he would fall to Browne, but as you can see here. That wasn't the case.

Werdum weathered an early storm to show fans he was the man to fight Cain Velasquez. Whenever this fight will take place is beyond me, due to the champion's lingering injuries. He was the quicker fighter and the more skilled fighter. Out striking Browne to a unanimous decision victory.

Browne will have to start over again, but if he puts together another string of KO wins, it won't be long until he get's his shot. Maybe a match with Mark Hunt can start things up again.

Elsewhere on the card Donald Cerrone submitted Edson Barboza. With three wins in a row he can face a top contender to see where he fits in the lightweight division. Khabib Nurmagomedov is now 22-0, with his unanimous decision victory over Rafael do Anjos. Have them fight for a top five spot.

Fight of the Night went to Thiago Alves and Seth Baczynski. It has been a while since we've seen Alves, more than two years. This was a return to form, a brawl deserving an award. Alves could be a threat in the welterweight division if he is consistent. Hector Lombard is a surging contender, he would be an ideal test.

Now that UFC on Fox 11 is in the books the heavyweight champion of the world has a match up. When he is ready for it. If Velasquez returns from his rehabilitation as the same athlete we saw defeat Junior Dos Santos twice, Werdum will need to step up his game even more than he has.
